QPR boss Redknapp defends Odemwingie
Harry Redknapp has defended Peter Odemwingie following the deadline-day debacle that saw the forward turn up at Loftus Road without being given permission by West Brom to hold talks with QPR.
Believing he was being snapped up by Rangers manager Redknapp, Odemwingie arrived in west London only to be told a deal had not been agreed with Albion.
The 31-year-old had made it clear he wanted to sign for the R’s and was keen to be nearby so that a medical could take place.
But his move did not go through because Junior Hoilett refused to join Albion on loan.
“I feel sorry for him [Odemwingie], yes I do,” Redknapp said.
“He’s not a bad lad. He’s a good person. He just made a mistake by coming here.
“He thought by coming down he’d be around if he got the call, but in the end we never agreed it with West Brom.
“He made a mistake but there are footballers who’ve made worse mistakes. I hope people [at West Brom] give him an opportunity. He has to get on with his life.”
