Harry Redknapp leapt to the defence of Jose Bosingwa after QPR’s relegation was confirmed at Reading.
The 0-0 draw sealed both clubs’ drop to the Championship and television footage showed Bosingwa laughing as he made his way towards the players’ tunnel after the final whistle.
But Rangers boss Redknapp, who was also seen laughing, said: “He wasn’t laughing about the result or getting relegated.
“To start throwing that one about is completely out of order. He was only laughing because one of their players – another foreign lad – came up and said something to him.”
Redknapp again suggested that being without strikers Loic Remy and Bobby Zamora for part of the all-important run-in was a major factor in Rangers’ failure to stay up despite spending £20m on transfer fees in January.
And he again warned that they can expect a tough time in the second tier next term.
“QPR are not going to be a superpower in the Championship. It’s going to be very difficult when you’ve got 25 players under contract,” he said.
Redknapp added: “I’m not going to say it’s been an easy club to manage. But if it was, I wouldn’t have got the job.
“I didn’t come in thinking ‘Oh yes I’m going to keep this lot up’. I knew it was going to be very difficult. We needed to show top-half form.”
