QPR boss Redknapp still favours 3-5-2
Harry Redknapp is considering switching back to a 3-5-2 system for QPR’s game at Southampton.
The Rangers boss was keen to use the formation this season but reverted to a back four after his side’s poor start to the campaign.
But he remains convinced playing with wing-backs and three central defenders is his best option given the players at his disposal.
Redknapp explained: “I have thought about it [changing the formation] this week. It’s in my mind. I had a meeting with the coaches and we spoke about it.
“It’s something we’ve certainly been looking at – something I wouldn’t discard.
“I brought the little right-back [Mauricio Isla] in as a right wing-back from Juventus and Armand Traore is a left wing-back really.
“I’ve also got five centre-halves and I like all of them. To play three of them would suit us fine.
“I like the system and I think it suits us with what we’ve got here. It’s something I will look at.”
He was forced into a rethink after Rangers were thrashed 4-0 by his former club Tottenham, who gave new signing Isla a torrid time on the flank.
But Redknapp insisted: “It doesn’t matter what system we play – we get beat 4-0 at Tottenham so everybody goes ‘oh they got smashed up because of the system’.
“We then played with a flat four at Man United and got beaten 4-0 there. It’s about players, not systems.
“I wouldn’t hesitate to go back to three at the back. I think we’re set up to play that way. It really does suit us in all honesty.”
