QPR boss plays down Sandro injury fears
QPR boss Harry Redknapp has insisted he has no concerns over Sandro’s long-term fitness.
The Brazilian midfielder played under Redknapp at Tottenham, where Sandro was hampered by knee trouble before being sold to Rangers in the summer.
He has struggled for fitness since and is expected to be out of action for at least a month after suffering another knee injury in the defeat at Newcastle on Saturday.
But Rangers say the problem is unrelated to a previous anterior cruciate ligament injury, while Redknapp has denied suggestions that the 25-year-old’s condition is now likely to be an ongoing issue.
“No, the bang he got on that knee, when you look at it, it could have been a lot worse,” said Redknapp.
“The knee must be very strong to take that. It could have been a really damaging one for him and could have put him out for a year. The knee must have been fine for him to withstand that.
“Obviously losing Sandro was a big blow for us. But it could have been a lot worse. Hopefully he’ll come back strong.”
