Warnock ‘not desperate’ to make signings

QPR manager Neil Warnock says he has told chairman Tony Fernandes there is no urgent need to make signings in January.

Big-spending Rangers are expected to invest heavily yet again when the transfer window reopens next month.

The club has shown an interest in numerous players, but Warnock has played down the prospect of another glut of new arrivals at Loftus Road.

He claims he would be content to make minimal changes – or even none at all.

“I’ve spoken to the chairman and told him what my thoughts are. We won’t be buying for the sake of it,” he said.

“If you gave me £5m for a striker, I don’t think he’d be any better than Heidar Helguson.

Helguson has scored six goals for Rangers this season.

“You’ve got to be a little bit careful. Sometimes January’s not the right time [to sign players].

“I do think we need a couple of players in areas which I’m going to try and get.

“But, at the moment, if I had to go with what I’ve got I’d be quite happy. I’m not desperate.

“Everyone’s saying we need four or five players. That’s not necessarily the case.”

Rangers are likely to sign at least one striker and are expected to table bid for Tottenham’s Jermain Defoe.

They have also been monitoring Andrew Johnson’s situation at Fulham, where he has been discussing a new contract. The forward’s current deal expires in the summer.

Warnock added: “We’ve always known that we’re not quite ruthless enough. But we’ll get there. We’ve only been in the Premier League five minutes.”

  • I really hope NW isn't saying that... or at least TF isn't listening.
It's a ridiculous statement given our small squad. If HH gets a red or injures himself tomorrow then what? After HH our next highest goal scorer has 2 (2!) goals.
In fact as I type this, and given NWs recent comments regarding keepers, I'm thinking he either didnt say it or is playing mind games with any would be selling clubs
