QPR boss Mark Hughes has confirmed he is trying to capture Nancy’s Mali midfielder Samba Diakité before next week’s transfer deadline.
Lyon are also interested in the 23-year-old, who is currently on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.
But Hughes is hopeful the player will choose a move to west London and beef up Rangers’ midfield options in the wake of Alejandro Faurlin’s knee injury.
Hughes said: “We’re hoping to progress with that. He’s a player I like and one I think could help us.
“We’re having conversations about it and hopefully it will lead to something happening.”
