Ian Holloway believes his decision to deploy Pawel Wszolek as a right-back during the second half against Burton was vindicated.
The QPR boss made the tactical change at half-time during Saturday’s goalless draw at Loftus Road.
Matt Smith and recent signing Samuel Osayi-Samuel were brought on and Wszolek was told to move to a deeper position – a change Holloway felt had the desired effect.
“I felt Pav needed to come and be a right-back, he explained.
“Pav needs to be able to run and they’d blocked all the space and there’s no space in behind Pav, so I’ve brought him back 15 yards and asked him to to run.
“How many times did we then play him straight in? You’ve got to have different ways of breaking things down.”
Holloway defended Yeni Ngbakoto and Darnell Furlong, who were taken off, and revealed he dropped Kazenga LuaLua for failing to turn up on time for training on Friday.

I thought he got Pavel and Jamie the wrong way round second half. As much as I love Ollie Pav is a winger and he had Smith and Sylla on. He had Osayi-Samuel hugging the left and Jamie sort of right wing but Jamie isn't a winger and he can't cross. At this stage of Jamie's career he could play right back and that would have meant both Pav and Osayi-Samuel being able to cross from the byline to Smith and Sylla. But I am just a fan of 45 years and not a manager. Ollie is my hero but Jamie is better set to do the deeper work these days. Wingers should be left and right and get to the byline.
