QPR boss explains decision to take duo off

Chris Ramsey said Charlie Austin and summer signing Tjaronn Chery were taken off in the 2-2 draw with Cardiff because they were showing signs of fatigue.

Both players were substituted by Ramsey for the second league game running, with striker Austin having been affected by a pre-season injury and Chery seemingly needing to build up his fitness following the Dutch playmaker’s move to Loftus Road.

Chery showed glimpses of his ability before fading – just as he did in the defeat at Charlton last weekend.

“Because the team has been brought together quite late we haven’t been able to be privy to what conditioning they’ve done,” said head coach Ramsey, who put the disappointing result down to Rangers’ failure to take several chances.

“He [Chery] looked like he’d given his all and there wasn’t much left in the tank.”

Austin, meanwhile, was withdrawn after his goal, which put QPR 2-0 up, appeared to be enough to give them their first league win of the campaign.

Ramsey explained: “It was just a precaution. Sometimes you watch players and think ‘He’s given his all and it’s time to take him off and put someone else on.’ Charlie did well today.”

  • Bring Barton back, then at least we have a leader on the pitch! Probably unrealistic....

  • Let's get serious here Chris Ramsey is not a manager may as well of grabbed one of the supporters out of the stand.
It's criminal. shame on everyone involved with QPR you are destroying us.

  • A sub here or there isn't the problem. We have been shocking for months and the team has nothing about them. That's the reality as a fan that wants to be optimistic and hates the negativity which is too often around. Let's be honest, it was a bad appointment and doomed us to relegation well before it was over. And since then it has just been plain and utterly woeful. What I saw yesterday was embarrassing and we still had a number of players on the pitch that were playing at one of the highest levels in the world 6 months ago. The management and leadership is not there - that is so clear and has been for sometime. So if it was my money - I would wonder about all the people that have been given me such duff advice for the last 12? months, show them the door and give it one more go. The players are there, it won't cost much, but get a new management/leadership team in immediately. We also miss one boss or superstar that is too good for the league on the pitch - if not Barton who is pulling the strings on the pitch, doing the thinking and giving the youngsters the knowledge and confidence. You get what you pay for sometimes and the team are lacking so much at the moment every team will smell the fear and we could be in big trouble and in for a big shock - it's happened before!
