Time was right to rest Kakay and recall Kane, says QPR boss
Mark Warburton says the time was right to give Osman Kakay a rest and bring Todd Kane back into the QPR side.
Right-back Kakay has impressed this year, keeping Kane out of the team and earning himself a new four-year contract.
But Kane was recalled for Saturday’s game against Cardiff and scored in Rangers’ 3-2 win.
There was a recall too for Bright Osayi-Samuel, who was left out against Barnsley amid continued uncertainty over the winger’s future.
Manager Warburton said: “Todd came in for Osman who has played so well game after game after game – you (have to) make those kind of changes.
“And with Brighty coming back in, these type of changes gave us some energy.
“It’s all about the squad and we’ve always said that everyone’s going to have a part to play and a contribution.”
With such a hectic schedule of fixtures, Warburton believes changes are essential in order to avoid players picking up injuries because of fatigue.
He explained: “Injury rates are up 42%, I believe, because players are being asked to play every three days.
“It has a massive impact on them. In that fatigued state, you’re more likely to get injuries.
“You’re placing demands on players and the likelihood of injuries is more.”
