QPR boss desperate to sign a centre-back
QPR manager Mark Hughes says he remains hopeful of signing a central defender before the transfer window closes this week.
Rangers are trying to persuade Michael Dawson to move to Loftus Road after having an offer for the Tottenham man accepted, and a number of other possible signings have been discussed.
Buying a dominant centre-back was one of Hughes’ top priorities this summer but he has not managed to conclude a deal yet.
He admitted: “That [signing a centre-back] was the plan at the beginning of the window. Of all the players we’ve gone after, that’s the one position where we haven’t really been able to address.
“But we’re looking at options right up to the window closing. Whether or not we’ll be able to do it, I’m not sure. It’s certainly an area we’re looking to get one more in.”
