Steven Caulker has joined Southampton on a season-long loan from QPR.
The Saints paid a £1.5m loan fee to sign the centre-back and will pay all of his wages during his year at St Mary’s.
No option for Southampton to sign Caulker, 23, on a permanent basis has been included in the deal.
It enables QPR to get Caulker off their wage bill ahead of the Championship campaign and leaves the door open for a possible return for him if Rangers win promotion back to the top flight.
He has three years remaining on his contract, having signed a four-year deal when he arrived from Cardiff City for £8m in 2014.
West Brom recently made an enquiry about Caulker but were put off by the asking price, while Southampton had been monitoring the situation for some time.
