Andy Johnson believes his recent form is down to a new member of the QPR fan base – his 10-year-old son.
The in-form R’s striker scored his second goal of the season when popping up with the winner at Bolton and now has a 100% strike rate when his lucky mascot has been in the crowd.
Johnson explained: “My dad brought my little boy down today. He came to the first game when I scored and he came again today. He’s coming to Elland Road next week!”
The former Fulham man missed nearly all of last season with a knee injury but he has shown this term that when fully fit he is a potent weapon at Championship level.
His winner at Bolton followed his opening-day strike against Sheffield Wednesday and Johnson, 32, says his desire to score goals is as strong as ever.
“I am a striker so scoring goals is a massive passion of mine,” he said.
“It’s something I love doing. To be out for a year and not to be able to have an impact last season was really frustrating.
“But I have worked really hard. I didn’t play very well myself but the tap in at the end gives the team a lift.”
