Still no firm offer for Austin – Ramsey

Chris Ramsey has reiterated that QPR have not received any recent offers for Charlie Austin despite continued speculation over the striker’s future.

Only Leicester City, who had bid rejected, have so far made an approach for Austin despite reports of several clubs pursuing a deal to sign him.

Newcastle and West Ham are among the clubs to have been linked with the 26-year-old, as are Everton and Tottenham.

But Rangers head coach Ramsey said: “If a club wants him and come in and make firm offers, and if the owners think it’s the right offer, then he’ll go. All we’re looking for is a firm offer to get this thing sorted one way or another.

“We haven’t had any firm offers for Charlie and as far as we’re concerned he’s a QPR player and will want to do his best to get his goalscoring tally up to where it was last year.”

Ramsey is keen for Austin’s future to be resolved

Rangers are keen for Austin, whose contract expires at the end of the season, to sign new deal if he is still there after the transfer window closes – otherwise they could lose him for a knockdown fee in January or no fee at all were he to see out his contract.

However, there is still every expectation that the club will receive enquiries and that a deal will be done for Austin to leave Loftus Road.

Ramsey said: “As we know, things can happen – usually at the last minute – and all clubs must look at players and think they might not still be there. But at the moment I can’t really see how things are going to pan out.

“His mindset has generally been good. But it would be naïve to think a young man wouldn’t have things on his mind in the situation he has been in.”
