QPR boss explains Chair’s absence

There has been speculation about Ilias Chair’s future (Picture: Ian Randall Photography)

Gareth Ainsworth has told QPR’s website that Ilias Chair missed Saturday’s pre-season friendly because of a minor ankle problem.

Lyndon Dykes and Sinclair Armstrong scored for the R’s in a 2-1 win against Vorwarts Steyr in Austria.

Chair sat the game out along with Jake Clarke-Salter, who limped off just 17 minutes after coming on as a substitute in a recent friendly against Slavia Prague.

R’s boss Ainsworth joked that Chair’s absence would fuel speculation that the player could be sold this summer.

Ainsworth said: “Ilias rolled his ankle in training the other day.

“Conspiracy theorists will be saying that Ilias Chair’s been sold. He’s here. Here’s not (been sold). We didn’t risk him.”

Clarke-Salter is nursing a calf problem. Rangers are hopeful the defender will be fit for the start of the new season.
