Critchley keen to keep Laird at QPR
New QPR boss Neil Critchley is hopeful Manchester United will allow on-loan right-back Ethan Laird to see out the season at Loftus Road.
Laird has missed just one game since arriving in west London just before the transfer window shut in August on a year-long agreement.
However, reports in Manchester have claimed the Premier League club may look to recall the 22-year-old if they sell Aaron Wan-Bissaka in January as back-up to Portugal international Diogo Dalot.
But Critchley believes United will be keen to let Laird see out the season at Rangers given that he is enjoying his best run of games so far in a career that has been punctuated by injuries.
“In any 12-month loan there is a natural break around mid-season and that applies to all players,” Critchley said.
“But Ethan has having a fantastic season here and playing every single week and I am sure Manchester United will be happy with Ethan and the way he’s been playing and his development.
“My aim is to carry that on. I see myself as someone who can coach players to improve in the team they are playing in.
“Ethan is someone I have been aware for many years coming through at United and I tried to sign him previously at Blackpool, which didn’t happen, so I am pleased that he is here and hopefully that is for the rest of the season.”
