West Brom 3 QPR 2
QPR remain bottom of the table and still without a league win this season after another defensive horror show.
Just as against West Ham on Monday, they found themselves two down early on and were unable to find an equaliser after Adel Taarabt hauled them back into the game.
And Youssouf Mulumbu added a late third to seal a deserved victory for West Brom before Esteban Granero netted an injury-time consolation for the visitors.
Rangers boss Mark Hughes has blamed his team’s poor results partly on injuries to defenders.
He moved Stephane Mbia – who limped off midway through the second half – into midfield in place of Alejandro Faurlin and restored Jose Bosingwa and Anton Ferdinand to the back four.
Yet within six minutes the same defensive shortcomings were evident again, with Shane Long sprinting past Clint Hill and crossing from the right for James Morrison, who got in front of Ferdinand and headed home.
And a gift from Ferdinand enabled Zoltan Gera to make it 2-0.
Again Hill was exposed, this time by Morrison, and after the resulting low cross was sliced by Ferdinand straight to the former Fulham man, he had the simple task of finding the bottom corner.
Taarabt’s 35th-minute goal – a classy chest-down and volley after collecting Granero’s clever ball – gave QPR hope.
But Albion comfortably kept them at bay before Mulumbu finished nicely after being teed up by Markus Rosenberg.
Granero’s well-placed shot from just outside the penalty area meant the final scoreline flattered Rangers.
They might even have snatched a point had Bosingwa not blazed over from eight yards following Granero’s corner in the final seconds.
QPR (4-1-4-1): Cesar; Bosingwa, Ferdinand, Nelsen, Hill (Traore 45); Mbia (Hoilett 69); Wright-Phillips (Mackie 60), Park, Granero, Taarabt; Zamora.
Subs not used: Cisse, Onouha, Faurlin, Green.
