Mixed news on injury front for QPR
QPR forward Heidar Helguson has failed in his bid to recover from a groin problem in time for Saturday’s vital match against fellow strugglers Blackburn, but Jay Bothroyd could feature.
Manager Mark Hughes was hopeful that Helguson would resume training this week and travel with the squad to Lancashire.
But he has continued to struggle with his injury and Hughes now accepts that the Icelander will not be involved at Ewood Park.
The news is a blow for Hughes, who will also face his former club without suspended striker Djibril Cisse and DJ Campbell, who is still being troubled by a hamstring complaint.
But Bothroyd has managed to train and could return to action following his hamstring strain. The ex-Rovers man will be assessed on Friday.
Akos Buzsaky, who has been struggling with an Achilles injury, is also hoping to be available for this weekend’s game.
Luke Young is out with a hamstring injury but Danny Gabbidon has recovered from a similar problem.
