Jamie Mackie says he will need to gradually work his way back to fitness following injury.
Mackie recently resumed training after back surgery and returned to action for QPR’s development side last week, but did not feature in their game against Sheffield United on Monday.
“The nature of the injury means it’s about taking things gradually and seeing how it feels,” said Mackie, whose last first-team appearance was against Preston in December.
“It was great to get back playing again and I’ll get another game in soon. The recovery has been going well.
“When I’ve had other injuries I’ve been beating the door down to play, but I knew I was ready. I know my own body.
“With this injury it’s about taking it step by step. I’m training again now and looking to get back in the first team as soon as I can.”
Mackie, who is in his second spell at Loftus Road, is one of a number of QPR players whose contract expires in the summer.
Jack Robinson, James Perch and captain Nedum Onuoha are also among those coming towards the end of their current deals.
“The aim is to get fit and get back into the team,” Mackie said.
“I’d like to stay and if I signed another contract that would great, but my focus at the moment is on getting fit.”
Birmingham City’s Wes McDonald, a 20-year-old forward on trial with the R’s, played in Monday’s game along with Bright Osayi-Samuel, who scored in a 2-1 win for QPR, Perch, Jordan Cousins and keeper Matt Ingram.
