Liverpool are interested in a potential deal to sign Steven Caulker on loan from QPR for the rest of the season.
Caulker, 24, is currently on a season-long loan at Southampton, where he has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular.
Sunderland have shown an interest and Rangers plan to approach Southampton about terminating his loan deal if an offer for Caulker is received.
And Liverpool, who face a central-defensive crisis after injuries to Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho, have made an approach for the former Tottenham man.
Caulker, who has one England cap, hoped for a move to Anfield before he eventually joined QPR from Cardiff City for £8m in 2014.
The Merseyside club were linked with him but did not show a significant interest before the Feltham-born Caulker settled for a return to west London.
Meanwhile, MK Dons want to sign QPR midfielder Massimo Luongo on loan.
