Late Onuoha goal gives QPR victory in Warnock’s final game

Nedum Onuoha’s last-minute goal gave QPR a dramatic away victory in Neil Warnock’s final match in interim charge.

Rangers will confirm Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s appointment on Friday and the new head coach will inherit a side that has won their last two games.

Alejandro Faurlin’s right-wing corner was headed down by Onuoha near the far edge of the six-yard box and the ball squirmed past keeper Ali Al-Habsi and into the net.

It secured a third away league win of the season for Rangers and kept them very much in touch with the promotion race.

They again started without a recognised striker before top scorer Charlie Austin, who has been nursing a calf problem, came on midway through the second half.

Reading striker Nick Blackman had almost broken deadlock when his fiercely-struck 65th-minute hit the bar.

Before that, Michael Hector missed two great chances either side of half-time.

Hector, loaned back to Reading after being signed by Chelsea in September, headed narrowly wide after being found unmarked by Ollie Norwood’s superbly-delivered free-kick.

And the defender again failed to find the target with another header following Garath McCleary’s corner.

Substitute Hal Robson-Kanu had a decent chance for the hosts as well, but fired wide late on.

Onuoha was also guilty of an embarrassing miss when he contrived to head over from five yards out following Austin’s flick-on.

But the skipper atoned by netting the winner – his third goal of the season.
