Julio Cesar is set to cut his ties with QPR and sign for Benfica.
The 34-year-old Brazil goalkeeper’s Rangers contract runs until 2016 but he has not been part of the club’s plans for more than a year.
Despite a host of reports of him being close to joining various clubs since the end of the 2012-13 season, he was unable to secure a move before joining Toronto on loan earlier this year.
But now Benfica have shown a genuine interest in Cesar, who has entered talks with the Portuguese outfit and is keen to join them.
The switch could be completed within the next 24 hours. A possible initial loan deal has also been discussed.
Cesar, signed from Inter Milan in 2012, has not made a league appearance for QPR since April 2013.
