Barton in line for return to action for QPR

Joey Barton is set to make a return to action for QPR today.

The midfielder, an outcast at the club for more than a year, is expected to feature in a behind-closed-doors game against Leyton Orient this afternoon.

He has not played for Rangers since an infamous violent outburst after being sent off against Manchester City in May 2012.

Barton spent last season on loan at Marseille and has been discussing a financial settlement to leave QPR.

But he has been told he will be included for today’s match alongside the likes of Alejandro Faurlin, Ji-sung Park and Jermaine Jenas, who were not selected for Friday’s friendly at Southend.

Midfielder Gary O’Neil, a free agent after recently leaving West Ham, is also expected to play ahead of a possible move to Rangers.

But neither Adel Taarabt nor Loic Remy will be involved.

Taarabt, who is likely to leave the club soon, has not played since being sent home from the recent pre-season trip to Exeter for disciplinary reasons.

QPR say striker Remy will resume training next week following an injury.
