Jenas keen to put injury woes behind him
Jermaine Jenas is determined to steer clear of injuries and silence his doubters.
The 30-year-old England international came off the bench to score a cracking goal in QPR’s 3-1 win against Sunderland.
It was Jenas’ first goal since joining Rangers from Tottenham in January and a moment for him to savour following a series of injury problems.
“Obviously little bits of doubt can creep into your mind when you pick up certain injuries and stuff,” he said.
“But I’ve always believed in my ability and worked really hard on my fitness – and even went to America in January to really knuckle down and get fit.”
Jenas’ strike was particularly sweet for him because, being a former Newcastle player, he was booed onto the pitch by Sunderland fans as he came on as a late substitute on Saturday.
“With my Newcastle ties, you can understand why the Sunderland fans booed me when I came on,” he said.
“I think the only thing a player can do when they are getting booed like that is to shut them up with a goal like that.
“With the injuries I’ve sustained, to score a goal like that felt great. It was a fantastic moment.”
