Ipswich v QPR player ratings

QPR suffered their first defeat since Ian Holloway’s return as manager, going down 3-0 against Ipswich. Here’s how we rated the Rangers players in their loss at Portman Road.

Alex Smithies: 5

Unfortunately has to get a low mark because the mistake which led to Ipswich’s all-important second goal was so pivotal to the outcome of the match. It was a rare mistake for a keeper known for winning points for Rangers rather than losing them. Overall, it was more like an eight-out-of-ten performance, with Smithies producing fine saves to keep the score down, but his gaffe was ultimately costly.

Nedum Onuoha: 5

A really poor display from the Rangers skipper, who was often indecisive and uncertain on the ball.

Grant Hall: 7

Really looks the part in a back three and is a great asset when he brings the ball out of defence into midfield. For that reason he could be a key player when Rangers are at home.

Joel Lynch: 6

Certainly not the swashbuckling display he produced during the second half of last weekend’s win against Norwich, but it was a reasonable showing.

James Perch: 5

Neither one thing nor the other on the right. Never got to grips with things defensively and offered very little going forward.

Jordan Cousins: 6

Impressive in the opening 20 minutes or so, when he seemed up for the battle. Appeared to lose heart as Ipswich began to have the upper hand.

Karl Henry: 5

Brought in for the ill Massimo Luongo and his display did nothing to deflect the often unfair criticism that comes his way. He was sloppy on the ball and too slow to close down.

Jake Bidwell: 7

Did well on his return to the side, especially given the inevitable lack of sharpness after two months out. Got forward and competed.

Tjaronn Chery: 6

Had a couple of attempts on goal and looked dangerous at times, but Rangers needed more from him.

Conor Washington: 7

Was denied a first-half goal by a good save and worked hard throughout.

Sebastian Polter: 6

Also worked hard, but caused the Ipswich defence fewer problems. Struggled to make any real impact before being taken off in the second half.

Sandro: 7

Effective after coming on, putting pressure on the ball and driving the team forward. But the second Ipswich goal effectively killed the game.

Idrissa Sylla: 6

His movement was better than Polter’s but his impact not much more significant.

Yeni Ngbakoto: 6

Came on for his first appearance since August. Has pace and plenty of ability but could do little to help a disjointed and dis-spirited Rangers side in the latter stages.
