QPR star Austin gets England call-up
QPR striker Charlie Austin has been rewarded for an impressive season with a first England call-up.
The 25-year-old, who has scored 17 goals in 34 Premier League games, is one of three uncapped players named in the squad for next month’s friendly with Ireland and Euro 2016 qualifier in Slovenia.
Burnley keeper Tom Heaton and Leicester forward Jamie Vardy could also make their debuts.
Austin is the first QPR outfielder to be named in the England senior side since Les Ferdinand in 1994.
Chelsea’s Gary Cahill is also in the 24-man squad.
Meanwhile, there are several representatives from Chelsea and Fulham in the England Under-21 squad for this summer’s European Championships.
Chelsea’s Patrick Bamford, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Nathaniel Chalobah join Whites keeper Marcus Bettinelli and striker Cauley Woodrow in a 27-strong preliminary list, which will be cut down to 23 by 2 June.
Alex Pritchard, who spent this season on loan at Brentford, is also included.
