Mark Hughes says he will turn Adel Taarabt into a top player if the Moroccan is prepared to keep listening to him.
Frozen out at QPR prior to Hughes’ appointment as manager, Taarabt has been impressive since being recalled by the Welshman and scored his first Premier League goal in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal.
And the R’s boss believes there is more to come from last season’s Championship player of the year.
“At Premier League level you have to understand the game and be involved totally from the first minute to the last minute, not just flit in and flit out,” said Hughes.
“You saw against Arsenal that he had a defensive job to do. He understood that for the good of the team he needed to do it well, which he did.
“He’s got an undoubted talent and he just needs to harness it. If he listens to what myself and the coaches tell him he’ll be a top Premier League player.”
