Green admits he got away with handball
Goalkeeper Robert Green has told the QPR website he was lucky to stay on the pitch after handling outside the penalty area in the New Year’s Day draw with Swansea.
Green came racing off his line to deny Wayne Routledge in the seventh minute, and ended up saving with his arm outside the box.
Neither the referee nor his assistant in that half of the field spotted it and the Rangers keeper admitted he had been fortunate.
Green said: “It’s one where he [Routledge] didn’t get to the ball as quick as I thought he would and unfortunately I slid out of the box a little bit too far.
“But nobody saw it, and I got away with it I guess. It’s something that happens so quickly, and it’s a very tough job for the referee.
“There’s not really a lot I can do – once I start sliding, I start sliding. As much as I might try to get out of the way, it’s inevitable really.”
QPR went on to take a first-half lead through Leroy Fer, but were pegged back by Wilfried Bony’s injury-time equaliser.
And Green conceded they should have managed the game better late on to guarantee three points.
He added: “There’s a feeling of frustration for us.
“We had a chance less than a minute before they scored to take the ball into the corner and try to kill the game, but we didn’t, and 45 seconds later Bony has got about half a yard of space in the box, and that’s all he needs.”
