Boss Hughes keen to cement Taarabt’s long-term future at QPR

Mark Hughes believes Adel Taarabt should commit himself to QPR for the good of his career.

Rangers are refusing to discuss new contracts until the summer but intend to offer Taarabt a vastly improved deal in order to secure his long-term future at the club.

And manager Hughes is convinced he can get the best out of the Moroccan, whose current contract expires next year.

“We won’t be discussing any contracts until the end of the season, but Adel’s a talented boy and I’m pleased with what he’s produced,” Hughes told West London Sport.

“If he stays – which is my intention – and works hard over a long period then I think he’ll become the player that he should be.

“He’s not there yet but he’ll get there. He’s a big part of what we want to do at this club.”

Taarabt, 22, was out of favour at Loftus Road prior to Hughes’ appointment in January.

The player’s improved performances have led to reports he could leave west London, with German outfit Wolfsburg among the clubs said to be showing an interest.

But Hughes insisted: “It’s just speculation. He’s part of what we want to build in the future and we’ve no intention of allowing him to leave.

“He’s a free spirit, but his performances are starting to have an effect at Premier League level and that will continue because he’s embracing what we’re telling him.”
