Hughes will not continue Warnock approach
QPR manager Mark Hughes has insisted he does not share Neil Warnock’s attitude towards the League Cup.
Hughes’ side face a second-round tie at home to Walsall on Tuesday and are expected to field a strong line-up.
Warnock shrugged off defeats against Port Vale and Rochdale during his time as Rangers boss, making it clear he regarded the competition as an irritation.
But Hughes said: “That’s not the policy now. We’re up against lower-league opposition, we’re at home and it’s important we progress.
“There’s only so many competitions where there’s a likelihood that you might be able to progress and possibly win – and there’s no chance of doing that by fielding a weakened side.
“There might be a chance you’ll be embarrassed if you don’t do things correctly. The intention is to make sure the squad is used but also that we’re strong.
“At this time of the year players should be able to cope if they’re at the correct level fitness-wise, so I don’t see any problems in being able to play Saturday-Tuesday.”
