QPR boss Mark Hughes has told his players they must capitalise on the boost they have been given by Wednesday’s remarkable victory against Liverpool.
Three goals in the final 14 minutes saw Rangers come back from 2-0 down to pick up priceless win in what Hughes hopes will prove to be turning point in their season.
But he has warned his team that they cannot afford to take a step backwards when they visit Sunderland on Saturday.
“It was a huge result for us and has given everybody a lift. The important thing now is that we can’t let that momentum disappear,” he said.
“There’s no point having an outstanding performance and a great result if we slip back to losing games where maybe we should be taking points.
“The challenge for us is to make sure we get something out of the game against Sunderland.”
And Hughes believes the Black Cats will be fully focused on this weekend’s game despite the fact they face Everton in the FA Cup on Tuesday.
He said: “I’d be very surprised if they allowed themselves to be distracted. Their priority might be the game in midweek but they’ll have time to recover from that anyway.
“They’re at home and will have the motivation to do well in front of their supporters.”
