Mark Hughes says QPR’s future plans mean he has the chance to build a legacy at the club.
Hughes was sacked as Manchester City boss and last summer quit Fulham, citing their lack of ambition as his reason for leaving.
But he insists he wants to stay at Rangers for a long time and turn them back into an established top-flight side.
“There’s two-and-a-half years on my contract and if I stay beyond that I’ll be very pleased,” he said.
“The club has plans for a new stadium, a new training ground and all sorts. To be involved in that from the start means you can have influence. For want of a better word, it’s about legacy.
“As a manager you want to make your mark and in my view this is a fantastic opportunity to do that whereas other jobs I’ve had, or since been offered, haven’t matched that.”
Hughes added: “It’s a fantastic fan base here. Everybody will tell you that when you come here as the opposition the fans get behind their team.
“The will is there to really drive the club forward and if we can do that it will be fantastic for everybody.”
