Hughes remains convinced his job is safe

Mark Hughes has again insisted he has the full support of QPR’s board despite the club’s dismal start to the season.

There has been speculation about Hughes’ future given that Rangers are bottom of the table and still without a league win.

But the Welshman, a friend of Tony Fernandes before taking over as manager at Loftus Road, says the chairman is fully behind him, as is vice-chairman Amit Bhatia.

And Hughes remains equally convinced Rangers’ poor results can be put down to injuries to various players whose return will bring an upturn in the team’s fortunes.

He said: “I speak every week with Tony, Amit and the other shareholders. I think they were encouraged by our performance against Everton.

“They know the reasons why we are where we are. We’ve obviously discussed those at length.

“We’ve had problems but they seem to be resolving themselves now so we fully anticipate the coming weeks will be better in terms of the points we accrue.”

Fernandes and chief executive Philip Beard have declared their support for Hughes a number of times in recent weeks, insisting they believe he will turn things around.

And Hughes added: “They [the board] look at everything. They look obviously at the results because those are the disappointing part of what we’re doing.

“But certainly they’re encouraged by the manner of our performances and what we’ve been able to produce, albeit not for the full 90 minutes and not in terms of being able to get maximum points.

“They’re very supportive and I’m very happy that I’ve got owners and a chairman that understand what we’re trying to do and believe in what we’re doing.”
