Hughes doubts QPR will sign Cissé

Mark Hughes has indicated that he is unlikely to sign former Liverpool striker Djibril Cissé.

The QPR manager confirmed the club have expressed an interest in buying the 30-year-old France international from Italian side Lazio.

Cissé, who left Liverpool in 2006 and spent the 2008-09 season on loan at Sunderland, is believed to be keen to return to the Premier League.

But Hughes said: “It’s one of those where if it comes through you’re delighted, but that one’s not one I would hang my hat on.”

Cissé is one of a host of strikers Rangers have enquired about as they look to sign a forward ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.

Another is Wigan’s Hugo Rodallega, whose contract is due to expire at the end of the season.

Rangers are considering making a bid for the Colombian as well as another for Chris Samba – despite having two previous offers for the defender rejected by Blackburn.

“We’re looking at players all over the world to see if we can bring quality in. We’d certainly like to get another striker,” Hughes confirmed.
