Mark Hughes claims there are no serious nerves in the QPR camp ahead of his team’s crunch clash with Manchester City.
Hughes’ side will be relegated if they lose at the Etihad Stadium – an outcome that would confirm City as champions – and Bolton win at Stoke.
But the Rangers manager insists his players do not fear Roberto Mancini’s men – and believe they can get the result they need in order to stay up.
“There aren’t [nerves] from my players. There’s a real understanding of what we need to do, and we’re looking forward to it,” he declared.
Hughes also dismissed suggestions that he will be out for revenge when Rangers take on his former club.
The Welshman, who made his name as a player at Manchester United, was sacked as City boss in 2009.
He said: “People keep throwing that word [revenge] up. It’s not in my mind at all. I’m just totally focused on what we need to do.
“If we get a result I’ll just be pleased for everyone connected with Queens Park Rangers. It’d be a huge achievement.”
And Hughes reiterated his belief that Rangers will become an established Premier League club again – regardless of whether they stay up this season.
He said: “It’s a huge game. [But] In the whole context of QPR, I think, if we don’t stay in the Premier League, what is in place for QPR will continue and still happen.
“What we want is to stay in the Premier League and then that process is accelerated. We don’t want the setback of relegation because it would set us back – 12 months or whatever in a different division would be hard for us.”
