QPR manager Mark Hughes admitted his side never recovered after conceding a first-minute goal at Chelsea.
Rangers’ 6-1 defeat increased their relegation worries and means next weekend’s game against Stoke – their final home match of the season – takes on added importance.
“We gave ourselves a mountain to climb,” Hughes said.
“Chelsea were on a high after the events of midweek and we wanted to frustrate them and not give them any encouragement, and unfortunately we didn’t manage to do that.
“We then tried to have a go and that compromised us at the back. The feeling was that we could come here and frustrate for an initial period. As it was we were behind after 20-odd seconds.
“We tried to chase the game, albeit naively, and got picked off. We didn’t do ourselves any favours but in fairness Chelsea showed a lot of energy and we couldn’t cope with that.
“We’ve got to put it behind us. We’ve got a massive game next week and our home form has been very good.”

Mark Hughes you got it wrong today. Played cisse wide when you should have played him off the cuff of zamora. Lacked width as Mackie was playing bad and cisse should never of been on the right. Was crying out to make the change for phillips and traore early on, but no, just wait til 70 minutes to change it and then we start threatning.
