QPR went all out to win – Hassebaink

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said QPR did everything they could to avoid a third draw in four matches.

Rangers’ 1-1 draw with Reading at Loftus Road means they have won just one of their last seven Championship matches and have not won at home in the league since the opening day of the season.

Pawel Wszolek’s goal – his first for the club – put them ahead but Danny Williams’ 20th-minute equaliser earned a deserved point for the Royals.

“It’s very frustrating and that’s why we really tried to go for it today,” manager Hasselbaink said.

“It’s better to win three and lose one than win one and draw three. We really tried to get the three points.

“My boys gave everything and we were very positive in our substitutions, and on another day it might have worked.”

Hasselbaink sent on forwards Conor Washington and Idrissa Sylla in the second half but it was the visitors who looked more threatening.

Reading were afforded plenty of space and were able to counter-attack almost at will.

Hasselbaink explained: “We had three strikers on to try to force something and we had an attacking midfielder [Tjaronn Chery] too.

“When you do that you are always going to suffer a little bit in midfield, but we wanted the win.

“It’s just unfortunate because we started ever so well and for the first 20 minutes we looked the better side and got a deserved goal.

“But we stopped doing what made us the better side and that is a pity. We needed to keep on going.

“In the second half we tried to pick it up again and we did in stages. But it was always going to be a game of not many chances.”
