Harry Redknapp says he has no regrets about not signing Nahki Wells for QPR.
The 23-year-old striker recently joined Huddersfield and is likely to feature for them against Rangers at Loftus Road today.
His representatives were keen for Redknapp to sign him from Bradford City and talked up Rangers’ supposed interest, leading to reports of a possible deal to take him to west London.
QPR were one of several clubs who watched Wells and decided against making a bid before Huddersfield snapped him up.
“We looked at him and we liked him but we just decided not to go for him in the end,” Redknapp explained.
“We had other options we were looking at. They [Bradford] were looking for £2m or £2.5m and we just decided to look elsewhere. Everybody looked at it and only Huddersfield took him in the end.
“He’s one of those boys – there’s loads about – where someone takes a chance and then in two years everyone says ‘We should have signed him’ or ‘We’re glad we didn’t sign him’ – you don’t know. It’s a chance you take.”
The Rangers boss added: “He could be a big success in this league. There’s no reason he can’t be.
“He’s a goalscorer and is quick. He has that knack of getting on the end of things and taking opportunities when they come.”
But Redknapp has warned that Wells is not the only attacking threat his team might encounter when they face the Terriers.
He said: “They’ve got James Vaughan, who is a good player I like, and Martin Paterson works his socks off.
“Suddenly they’ve got three or four good strikers and that’s what you need. I think Huddersfield will be scrapping for the play-offs.”
