QPR moving in right direction – Redknapp
QPR boss Harry Redknapp was disappointed after a late Manchester City equaliser denied his team victory, but he insisted they are moving in the right direction.
Rangers, much maligned during the opening weeks of the season, produced another committed display and the champions were rescued by Sergio Aguero’s 83rd-minute goal.
Coming after a win against Aston Villa and narrow defeats against Liverpool and Chelsea, the game provided more evidence that Redknapp’s team are capable of getting out of the bottom three.
“In the last four games we’ve played well and deserved more points than we’ve got. We’re playing well and if we continue to do that we’ve got a great chance,” Redknapp said after the 2-2 draw.
“I’m disappointed. We worked hard enough and played well enough to have won tonight.
“When we went 1-0 up they were on the ropes. They got an equaliser out of nothing and when we went 2-1 up I thought we’d win the game.”
Redknapp admitted he was initially bemused after Charlie Austin, who scored the opener, was earlier denied a goal in bizarre circumstances.
Austin was offside when he headed in from Eduardo Vargas’ right-wing cross.
And from the resulting free-kick, City keeper Joe Hart appeared to change his mind as he struck the ball and inexplicably gave it straight to the striker, who duly fired in from 20 yards.
However, because Hart had touched the ball twice as he made a mess of the kick, referee Mike Dean spared his blushes by ordering it to be retaken
Redknapp said: “No-one seemed to know what it was for. I didn’t realise he’d had two touches. If the rules say you can’t have two touches then what can you do?
“I asked the fourth official and he said Joe Hart had touched it twice and if he did the rule is that there has to be a retake.”
