Was Mowbray wrong to believe Dickie was a possible weak link for QPR?
Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray surprised many QPR fans by saying he deployed striker Adam Armstrong in a wide role because he felt Rob Dickie was a potential weak link in the Rangers side.
Mowbray made the comments after his team were beaten 1-0 by the R’s on Saturday.
Dickie has been outstanding this season, so did Mowbray get it badly wrong? Or did he have a point?
Kevin Gallen believes Mowbray’s comments were unnecessary. The former QPR striker discussed the issue with West London Sport’s Dan Bennett and Ian McCullough.
They also talked about Rangers’ improved defending and Olamide Shodipo’s successful loan spell at Oxford United.

This is championship level – not Champions league. Mowbray needs to reconsider, ‘cos he was proved wrong – the score says it all . The whole team especially Dickie (with a couple of exceptions up front) are perfect for this level.

Always a big ask to ask a player to step up quickly to ther demands of a higher tier, but he’s done just that. Still young and still learning but he’s had an excellent season so far and more than fulfilled his remit

I started watching the R’s in 1967 and remember a centre back called Vic Mobley. I think Ron Hunt and Tony Hazell , then Frank Mclintock came immediately after Mobley. I fancied myself as bit of a centre half was was fascinated by these fellows. Hazell and Mclintock were an unbelievable partnership. Mclintock read the game so well he didn’t need to be fast, he was always one step ahead of the game. Dickie, what I’ve seen of him has that knack too. He’s good on the ball, rarely puts a foot wrong and appears to be improving all the time. Managers talking like Mowbray has about opponents players is uncalled for and ought to be given little credence.

I think it was a fair comment in relation to Dickie’s speed. In the away game, Armstrong caused Dickie all sorts of problems. Even on Saturday, he caused him trouble at times and if Armstrong had scored or created an assist, the Mowbray’s comments would have appeared more justified – fine margins.
Don’t get me wrong, Dickie is a fine defender and has contributed enormously to QPR leaking a lot less goals this season. But Barbet would be quicker, so you can understand Mowbray’s rationale.

I have thought myself he is not the quickest but he is brave and his positioning is improving. He reminds me of Hunt,Fenwick and Hall they would all throw themselves in front of a train for QPR that’s why all these years on still they are still remembered in very high regards as brave defenders and qpr through and through.
I started watching the hoops in 1967 with my dad and we still have 4 generations of QPR supporters even named my cafe after them ( Blue Flag Cafe)

He is a good player but his speed is not good which is what Mowbray was saying

Time Mr Mowbray got his pension and retired,he obviously is no judge of a very very good footballer
