Redknapp admits QPR duo were missed
QPR boss Harry Redknapp said a lack of pace in attacking areas hampered his side in their 1-0 defeat at Newcastle.
Rangers were without Eduardo Vargas, who attended the birth of his baby daughter, while his fellow Chilean Maurico Isla was not fit enough to play after returning from international duty late on Thursday.
And manager Redknapp felt both players were sorely missed at St James’ Park, where Moussa Sissoko’s goal gave the Magpies victory.
Redknapp said: “It was drifting away into a 0-0 draw, that’s how I saw the game going. I couldn’t say I was on tenterhooks thinking ‘they’re going to score, they’re battering us’.
“But we hadn’t created enough either. I felt were were solid without really being that creative. I felt it was drifting on to a decent point.
“When you play away from home you need a bit pace on the break. We’re not a team that’s over-blessed with pace to be honest with you.
“We lost Loic Remy two days before the deadline and we missed Vargas today. He’s done very well for us.
“Isla gives us an awful lot going forward but he arrived back very, very late on Thursday night and he looked absolutely out on his feet yesterday, having had two games this week in South America.
“That took a bit away from us. Them two are two quick, attacking players, and I felt we missed those two.”
Rangers’ defeat plus Burnley’s win at Stoke meant Redknapp’s side returned to the bottom of the Premier League.
