Ramsey hopeful Austin will play against Cardiff

Chris Ramsey says he is hopeful Charlie Austin will feature in QPR’s first Championship home game of the season.

The striker, whose pre-season was affected by a groin problem, has been linked with a number of clubs and has been widely tipped to leave Loftus Road before the transfer window closes.

He was not selected for the Capital One Cup win at Yeovil on Tuesday but head coach Ramsey believes Austin could be back in the squad for Saturday’s visit of Cardiff.

“He’s had treatment and I hope he’s going to be fit. He’s one that you need to be fit and pushing for a good performance,” Ramsey said.

“I am hoping he’ll be in contention to be fit. He hasn’t rocked the boat or made disturbances in the changing room, asking to leave or anything.”

Austin is expected to train with the rest of the R’s squad on Thursday.

The likes of Newcastle, West Ham and Everton are reportedly vying to sign him but so far only Leicester have made an approach.
