No injury worries over Onuoha – Ramsey

Chris Ramsey insisted there were no concerns over Nedum Onuoha’s fitness following QPR’s opening pre-season friendly in Italy.

Onuoha and young midfielder Michael Doughty went off before the end of the 10-0 win against Verona Stars, meaning Rangers finished the match with only nine men.

But head coach Ramsey said Onuoha, who has previously had hamstring trouble, was brought off as a precaution as the defender had played the first 45 minutes and then come back on during the second half.

Ramsey explained: “We managed the players and took off Nedum Onuoha and Michael Doughty – they’re not injured, it was just to be on the safe side.”

New signing Seb Polter was among the goalscorers for QPR in Italy

Ramsey’s side easily thrashed lowly opposition that stepped in when Rangers were forced into a late change of opponents and venue after Shakhtar Donetsk withdrew from scheduled friendly on the eve of the game.

“We still got what we needed out of it – it was a good workout,” said Ramsey.

“In some ways it worked out better not to have a really top-notch side in the first game.

“The players were looking forward to playing against Shakhtar but they still really applied themselves well in the game.”
