Chris Ramsey is adamant he is the right man to manage QPR in the Championship.
Relegated Rangers have won only two of their 13 matches since Ramsey was installed as head coach on an interim basis following the departure of Harry Redknapp.
Nevertheless, the club plan to confirm the 53-year-old as manager in the next week or so.
And Ramsey believes he has done enough to show he should remain at the helm.
He said: “Why do I believe it? Because the players have shown a great response to me being here, the fact that we’ve competed quite admirably in most of the games has shown that I do have the ability to take the club forward.
“The fact that we do have a long-term vision for the club and putting the foundations down so the club has a stable footing for a long time makes me ideal for this job.
“The way the players have responded, I think the fans have generally been quite pleased even though I have alluded to the fact that we’ve shot ourselves in many a game by losing games in the last minute.
“It’s been one of those seasons where probably the players have put their best foot forward but it just hasn’t been good enough.”
Rangers’ fate was sealed by a dismal 6-0 defeat at Manchester City last weekend.
On Saturday they host a Newcastle team whose recent form means they are in danger of joining Ramsey’s side in the second tier next term.
“First of all, we have to redress the performance of last week. We have to try to make sure our home fans see that was a blip,” Ramsey said.
“We also have to ensure that the integrity of the Premier League is taken into consideration as regards the other teams that are fighting towards the bottom of the league. We have to make sure we do our bit to go all the way in the competition.”
Rangers have Nedum Onuoha available again after suspension but will again be without Sandro because of an issue with the Brazilian’s visa.
