QPR want to use their windfall from Raheem Sterling’s big-money transfer to sign Tjaronn Chery from Dutch club FC Groningen.
A sell-on clause agreed when Liverpool signed Sterling in 2010 means Rangers will get 20% of the fee paid by Manchester City for the England international this week.
Chery, 27, was on QPR’s list of targets after the end of last season and a move to sign him has been sanctioned following confirmation of Sterling’s transfer.
An attacking midfielder with an impressive goalscoring record, Chery’s previous clubs include FC Twente and Den Haag.
A number of Premier League clubs have been monitoring him and Aston Villa recently approached Groningen but were unable to agree a deal.
Dutch media have claimed that QPR have had a bid for him rejected and that he is keen to play for a top-flight team.
However, Rangers are pursuing a deal, with discussions between the two clubs ongoing.
