QPR’s Zamora could miss Liverpool game
QPR are assessing the fitness of Bobby Zamora ahead of Saturday’s game against Liverpool.
Relegation-threatened Rangers are desperately hoping the veteran striker, 34, will be able to start at Anfield.
Zamora has been hampered by an ongoing hip condition for some time and is also feeling the effects of other injuries.
But head coach Chris Ramsey is optimistic Zamora will at least play some part this weekend, while Leroy Fer is in contention for a return to the starting line-up following his injury lay-off.
“Bobby’s struggling, which is a blow for us,” Ramsey said.
“Bobby’s had a bad hip – a bad few things. He’s a man that has taken a lot of bumps and bruises and is one that’s always in the battle.
“With Bobby it could be anything from his hip to ankle to shoulder. But I’m sure he’ll be playing again before the end of the season.
“We would really love to have him fit but the good news that is that Leroy is fit. I can see both players featuring at some point in the game.”
Rangers are unsure whether Rio Ferdinand will be in the squad for the trip to Merseyside.
The former England defender has made only three Premier League appearances this year, the most recent of which came in the 2-1 defeat against Tottenham on 7 March.
“Rio’s training, but off and on. He’s had some injuries that haven’t cleared up to the point that he can go out and do himself justice,” said Ramsey.
