Rangers ready to ‘take a chance’ on Fer
Chris Ramsey says QPR are ready to gamble on the fitness of Leroy Fer in this weekend’s crucial game at home to West Ham.
Relegation-threatened Rangers desperately need to win Saturday’s derby at Loftus Road and are set to include Fer in their squad despite him not being fully fit following a knee injury.
The Dutch midfielder has been sidelined since suffering ligament damage during the 2-0 triumph at Sunderland on 10 February – Rangers’ first win under head coach Ramsey – but is back in training and could return to action against the Hammers.
“We’re going to hope and try our best to make sure he’s at least on the bench.”
Chris Ramsey on Leroy Fer
Ramsey said: “He’s not exactly where we’d want him to be but at the moment I don’t think we’re in a position to put him too much in cotton wool – it’s the last few games.
“Sometimes you just need to take a chance on someone who might not be 100% fit.
“What we’re considering is getting that balance between making sure he’s fit and doesn’t get a recurring injury.
“He is in contention. He hasn’t put his hand up to say that he’s fully fit. This [match] was the target for him and we’re going to hope and try our best to make sure he’s at least on the bench.”
Meanwhile, Yun Suk-Young will return to QPR’s squad.
The South Korean left-back has missed the last two matches after suffering a head injury in the win at West Brom.
