QPR believe AC Milan could try to re-sign Adel Taarabt on loan just before Monday’s transfer deadline.
Rangers boss Harry Redknapp thinks Taarabt is banking on a last-minute approach from the Italian club.
The Moroccan enjoyed a loan spell with Milan last season and is desperate to join them on a permanent basis.
So far there has been no offer made to Rangers and the Loftus Road board have told Redknapp they will not agree to a second loan move or cut-price sale.
Reports in the Italian media recently suggested Milan were looking to buy Taarabt for as little as £2m. The R’s, who signed him from Tottenham in 2010, want £6m.
Redknapp said: “He’s probably waiting for Milan to come in at the last minute on Monday. That probably is the plan.
“Maybe Milan’s plan is to come in at the last minute and try to loan him again or whatever, but the owners have said that’s not going to happen.”
Meanwhile, there continues to be speculation that Loic Remy could be on his way to Chelsea as a replacement for Fernando Torres.
France striker Remy, 27, is keen to join the Blues or Arsenal, but neither club have made a firm approach despite numerous reports in recent months suggesting they have done so.
However, with Chelsea having agreed loan deal with Milan for Torres, reports in Italy and France say Remy is on his way to Stamford Bridge.
On Friday morning Remy rejected move to Newcastle, where he spent last season on loan, after the Magpies submitted an offer in a final attempt to sign him.
He joined QPR from Marseille for £8m in January last year on the understanding he would be able to join a top-four club for the same fee.
Rangers have offered him new contract and on Friday afternoon – prior to the Torres deal being announced – they were increasingly confident he would remain at Loftus Road and sign an improved deal early next week.
