QPR ‘doing things right’ – Hasselbaink

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink insisted QPR are “doing things right” despite the 1-1 draw at home to Huddersfield that left them still waiting for their first win under the Dutchman.

Rangers, in their fifth match since Hasselbaink took over as manager, again struggled without top scorer Charlie Austin.

They played without a recognised striker until the second-half introduction of Sebastian Polter, who opened the scoring with 10 minutes remaining.

Nahki Wells equalised with a stunning free-kick five minutes later to rescue a deserved point for Huddersfield, who were the better side in the first half.

“We’re very disappointed. I think the boys just need a win,” said Hasselbaink.

“I’m not really thinking about myself, it’s more for the boys – I want this for them. I can’t fault them, even for the first half, because they are working hard.

“We are doing things right. It didn’t look like it in the first half because we were under the cosh, but Huddersfield didn’t create a chance – all their play was in their half.

“Huddersfield were the better team in the first half and they made it difficult for us. We had to change the shape and did that, and after that I thought it was a lot better.

“In the second half we looked very good – a lot better – and scored but couldn’t hold on. We were unlucky.”

The result meant Rangers, who host Hull City on New Year’s Day, remained 12th in the Championship table.

“We are in a little corner that only we can get out of,” Hasselbaink added.

“We are doing things well, it’s just about getting over the line.

“We are getting our noses in front, we just need to stay in front and keep going. We take the point and move on.

“We are in a little bit of a storm that we are trying to get out of. We just need to keep on going.”
