QPR fan injured in accident before Forest match
A QPR fan is in intensive care after being hit by a car before Tuesday’s match at Nottingham Forest.
Alan Barnes, a devoted supporter well known to many R’s fans who travel to away games, was due to undergo surgery on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in Long Eaton, where a coach carrying members of the QPR Loyal Supporters Association had stopped at a pub en route to the City Ground.
Mr Barnes, a longstanding LSA member, stepped into the road as fans were re-boarding the coach and was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
He was treated at the scene by an off-duty paramedic before an ambulance arrived.
His friend and fellow QPR fan Peter Kingham, who was also with the travelling party, said: “I’ve seen Alan. He’s still in intensive care, is sedated and will have surgery.
“It’s too early to assess his injuries. It’s very upsetting and we hope he recovers as soon as possible.”
QPR say they are aware of the incident and are being kept updated on Mr Barnes’ condition.
Manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and co-chairman Tony Fernandes have posted messages of support for him on Twitter.
The boys and I would like to wish lifelong and dedicated #QPR fan, Alan Barnes, a very speedy recovery following his accident last night.
