QPR boss Mick Beale is hopeful Tyler Roberts will return to face Hull on Tuesday after missing Saturday’s win over Watford at Vicarage Road.

Roberts has struggled with his fitness since moving to Rangers from Leeds on loan and missed the final three months of last season at Elland Road after tearing a thigh muscle – an injury that has troubled him since moving to Loftus Road.

The 23-year-old started just twice for Rangers, but Beale said he and the club are being careful with the forward given how early in the season it is.

However, the Rangers head coach said Niko Hamalainen could be set for a spell on the sidelines after injuring his ankle in training.

“He (Roberts) just wasn’t fit,” Beale said.

“I am expecting him back and available midweek. Honestly, it’s seem every time we play there is something.

“Niko yesterday at the end of the session rolled his ankle which means he will be out.

“We’re not sure as to the extent of that yet. George Thomas hasn’t returned to training yet so there is probably six or seven still out.”

Rangers completed the signing of experienced centre-back Leon Balogun on Friday but the former Glasgow Rangers and Brighton player is still at least two weeks from being ready for selection.

“Leon only signed on Friday and has trained on Saturday in isolation,” Beale said.

“He will give us bags of quality, athleticism and international experience.

“He brings a voice as well, we’re not the sum of all parts at the moment.

“What I need and what and the fans need to see is Luke Amos back, Taylor Richards, Tyler Roberts, Leon Balogan ready plus one or two that may come in the window because then we will see this thing move in the right direction.”
